Not-so-secret valentines

If you're sick of all the cliché Valentine's Day cards you've seen in the past few weeks, here's a little refreshment for you.

PostSecret recently shared some of their top Valentine's-themed postcard picks. (They update it every Sunday so it's only up there for a few days.) If you're not familiar with PostSecret, first, drop everything you're doing and go check it out because you don't know what you're missing. PostSecret is an ongoing community art project where people anonymously mail a secret on one side of a postcard. They are variably cute, sad, angry, and ecstatic, but they are above all honest. My favorite:

They also have a special Valentine's day video posted on MySpace.

Artist Aubrey Trinnaman came up with a fabulous idea for Valentine's Day. The premise: Send her your valentine's name and an optional short message along with $35 on PayPal, and she creates an original custom valentine for them. She has posted several samples here. Obviously, the day has come and gone, but if you want something made for any occasion, or even just to be nice, she'd love to make it for you ... as long as you promise not to shoot the messenger.

If any of you got engaged on Valentine's day, congratulations!!

And, like the best valentines, I'll keep it short and sweet. Happy V-day!
