Weddings Gone Wrong
This little bit of news from the BBC caught my eye this morning. I'm sure there's a lesson to be learned here somewhere. To avoid elaborate bouquet tosses, maybe?

June 6, 2009: Erin & Adam, Stowe, Vermont
My apologies for the long absence - June was a busy month for us! Here are a few select images from our first wedding of the season. Erin and Adam were married at Edson Hill Manor in Stowe. There were some threatening clouds during the afternoon but thankfully the rain stayed away. It was a small, intimate wedding set in a lovely location. Julie Blanner from Coordinately Yours has posted several of our detail photos on her blog here. Congratulations, Erin and Adam!
I love the anticipation and joy in this image.

Erin checks herself out in a car window just before the ceremony. Bit nervous, maybe? :)

The happy couple!

FAQ
A quick note: we have added a sorely needed FAQ to our About section on the site. We feel this will save us some time answering basic questions about our services, while allowing more time to discuss the specific needs of clients.
And, we are shooting our first wedding of the season this weekend - Erin and Adam at Edson Hill Manor in Stowe! Stay tuned for our favorite photos from the wedding next week.

Introducing Wild Magnolia and Willow Album Design
Recently we started working with a new album maker, Rebecca Shostak, who is based out in Santa Monica, California and founded Wild Magnolia Design last year. Becca is unique in that she only offers albums made of recycled and environmentally sustainable materials. Her books are gorgeous, handmade works of art and to top it off they have a very fair price tag. We've been searching for a long time for someone who fits all of these criteria and are delighted to have found Becca! Check out her work here and her unique philosophy here.
For the actual layout, we'll be using Britney Gardner of Willow Album Design. We love her clean, elegant designs and feel that they'll beautifully showcase our documentary shooting style.
Not only are Becca and Britney awesome at what they do, entrusting the album design process to them leaves us time to do what we do best: photographing and photo editing. We are delighted to have found these two wonderfully talented people and we will have a sample album to show off in the near future!
We just received our goodie box this week and wanted to show off some of the materials that Becca offers her clients:

Spring things
Yesterday I escaped from the computer for a couple of hours to explore nearby Red Rocks Park in Burlington. For company I brought along my dogsitting charge Sunshine (left) and my roommate Naomi's dog Arla. (For the record, Judd and I don't have a dog of our own, although we desperately want one! We just want to wait until we're absolutely ready.)
It was a drizzly, gray April day, but you could positively smell spring bursting from the ground. Having never been to Red Rocks before, I happily got lost for two hours with my canine buddies and my camera. Enjoy! And happy Earth Day everyone.

Sometimes, in photography, you have to get a little dirty to get the picture you want. But it was worth it for the shot of this gorgeous purple flower!

The Money Stone: gold mining in Ghana
Earth Day is nearing – but the decisions you and your fiance make during your wedding planning will resonate long after April 22 passes. Like the ring on your finger, for example.Filmmaker Stuart Harmon has come out with a feature-length documentary on gold miners in Ghana, or "galamseys." The Money Stone exposes the dangers of a trade plagued by poor governmental regulation, lack of technology and safety standards, and environmental destruction. It is estimated that nearly one-quarter of the world's gold comes from small-scale mines like those in Ghana.
The film is now in post-production – visit their site to watch the trailer, see pictures and read more. As visual artists, we appreciate the compelling imagery of The Money Stone. As socially conscious business people – we're not perfect, but we're getting better – we appreciate Harmon's efforts to put the gold mining industry under the microscope.
Consider buying your wedding rings and other wedding gems from a jewelry company that uses conflict-free materials. The Responsible Jewellry Council offers a list of member companies on its site. Some New England conflict-free retailers include Brown Goldsmiths in Freeport, Maine and Vermont Gemological Laboratory in Burlington.

Same-Sex Marriage in Vermont
Because we do a fair amount of business in Vermont, we thought it worth reporting that same sex marriage passed in the Montpelier statehouse as of a few minutes ago. Congratulations to all the happy LGBT couples out there!
In other news, we have a second 5D Mark II now and are gearing up for a busy wedding season! More to follow in the next few days.
